Abstract

Abstract: The efforts to develop electricity supply utilities are in line with increasing necessities following the growth of the economic sector, urbanisation, and modern human living, and the diversification of methods of electricity generation. This is the key in ensuring the process of providing energy is not disrupted by price, as well as the uncertain availability non-renewable energy sources such as natural gas, oil, and coal. The focus turns to the use of renewable energy sources such as water to fulfil and guarantee electricity supply to consumers. In Malaysia, the electricity industry via water sources, especially rivers, began since the 1890s, and continues to this day. This study identifies the development of the water resources especially Perak River until it becomes an important source in hydroelectric power generation in Perak specifically and Malaysia generally before 1990. This article applying library research method by analysing primary and secondary sources such as the Annual Report of the National Electricity Board, books and journal. Perak River, as the best granted by Him (Allah SWT) has showed the great potential in contributing electric supply since 1930 and still significant until now. This situation clearly shows the long-term benefits bestowed by Allah SWT on His servants by prospering water resources.
